Cambodian Seniors Hub: Fostering Community Connection
The Fairfield City Council proudly sponsors this program 2024-2025
The project is an ongoing initiative established by CAWC several years ago. It offers a safe space for seniors to meet weekly and directly addresses ongoing challenges related to isolation caused by a lack of regular social connections, which negatively affect their mental and physical health. The project also aims to increase awareness of social services by fostering social inclusion, addressing physical and mental health concerns, and improving access to essential services such as My Aged Care, local service providers, and information on elder abuse.
CAWC organises and facilitates a weekly session every Thursday morning at Bonnyrigg Heights Community Centre. This is a public session open to all Cambodian-Australian seniors residing in Fairfield and Liverpool City, free of charge. The session is facilitated in the Khmer language and starts at 9:00 AM, finishing at 12:30 PM. Each session features morning tea, gentle physical exercises for seniors, an information session on healthcare and senior support services, memory-stimulating games, and concludes with a shared potluck lunch.
CAWC takes pride in covering the costs of this project, and we greatly appreciate the dedication of our volunteers and staff who generously give their time and effort to ensure its success.
In the fiscal year 2024-2025, we are genuinely grateful to the Fairfield City Council for their generous partial funding of $3,000, which significantly supports our initiative. This collaboration highlights the importance of community involvement and shared commitment to our mission.
